In June 2017, India joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). So, what advantages and disadvantages might India’s membership of the SCO create for the country? In response, this text looks at 1) how the SCO could allow India to build closer energy ties with its neighbors; 2) the potentially limited ability of New Delhi to assert its interests in an organization headed by China and Russia; 3) how India’s membership might provide opportunities to forge links with Central Asian countries in the industrial sector, and more.
