This report outlines the economic impact violence and conflict had on the global economy in 2017. Key findings include 1) that the global economic impact of violence was $14.76 trillion in 2017, in constant purchasing power parity (PPP) terms, equivalent to 12.4 per cent of global GDP, or $1,988 per person; 2) the economic impact of violence increased by two per cent during 2017 due to increases in internal security spending and a rise in the cost of conflict; 3) Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq incurred the largest economic cost of violence as a percentage of GDP at 68, 63 and 51 per cent respectively, and more.
