This paper contends that the United States has the potential to be a major contributor to global peace if it adopts a more nuanced and forward-looking approach to security. To facilitate this transformation, the text recommends that the new presidential administration 1) prioritizes peace in its global strategy; 2) continues to counter violent extremism; 3) re-thinks the US’ system of partnerships; and 4) exploits the country’s full diplomatic and development potential.
