This publication reviews recent developments, ideas and opportunities associated with the search for durable solutions for refugees and other forced migrants, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs). The text’s author suggests that despite the continued barriers that hinder efforts that address displacement, national and international actors do have opportunities to advance solutions. For example, these actors could more concertedly support refugees’ own choices and strategies; strengthen accountability for violations of refugees’ rights; address connections between displacement and durable solutions in conflict and disaster situations; and respond more comprehensively to the interconnected needs of refugees and IDPs.
