This brief concludes the following about South Africa’s relationship with preventing violent extremism (PVE) – 1) Pretoria is in the enviable position of being able to implement PVE measures before it becomes a domestic problem; 2) the government should work to understand the factors behind violent extremism and adapt both its policies and legislation accordingly; and 3) South Africa should participate in international institutions and other venues in order to share its own PVE experiences and learn from others.
