This publication contends that in Karen State, a minority-dominated state in Myanmar, armed conflict has preserved one of the world’s last remaining biodiversity hotspots. The text’s author explains that this has kept the region from the environmental destruction of unchecked development that Myanmar has invited since opening itself to foreign industry in 2008. As a consequence, after laying out the current situation in Karen State, she analyzes how various stakeholders can protect this biodiversity hotspot from risks resulting from both climate and conflict-related issues.
