Despite the populist surge in Europe, it appears that Germany’s traditional parties remain popular. To clarify why that’s the case, this brief analyzes the formal policies of these groups and the sources of their enduring appeal. One factor to consider is that populist sentiments have been mainstreamed into German party politics.
