This paper outlines existing law enforcement cooperation between Australian and Chinese authorities, highlights the risks and limitations in working with China, and suggests areas where the states could increase future cooperation. More specifically, the text’s authors examine 1) the states’ cooperation on economic crimes, with a focus on fraud and corruption; 2) Australia’s concerns about and risks of working with the Chinese government, using the debate over the ratification of the Australia–China extradition treaty as a case study; 3) Canberra and Beijing’s cooperation regarding counter-terrorism, and more.
