This report measures the state of peacefulness in Mexico by 1) focusing on the key trends, patterns and drivers of peace, and 2) highlighting future policy opportunities. The report additionally analyzes the economic benefits associated with a more peaceful society and offers a backdrop for strategic discussions among policymakers, researchers, business leaders and the general public on building peace in Mexico. Key findings include 1) that in 2017, Mexico’s homicide rate reached historically high levels; 2) this was accompanied by a substantial increase in gun violence; 3) that organized crime, ordinary criminality and interpersonal violence are all on the increase, and more. The report is in Spanish and English.
