This paper explores challenges to healthcare provision in conflict-affected settings. These challenges are broadly broken down into three categories: 1) constraints related to the health system and damaged health infrastructure 2) difficulty for health workers to access populations in need and 3) restrictions to healthcare provision intentionally or accidentally placed by donors or states engaged on humanitarian and health issues. After exploring these issues, the text’s author identifies key gaps in policy and implementation in addressing them before providing recommendation on how to improve healthcare provision in armed conflict.
