This paper contends that despite Australia’s desire for another term on the UN Security Council and a seat on the UN Human Rights Council, Canberra’s engagement with the world body has been patchy and underwhelming. Canberra can reverse this problem, argues the text’s author, by 1) championing reforms in the organization, including its intelligence and analysis capabilities; 2) contributing more to UN peacekeeping operations; and 3) working to increase the number of Australians that serve in UN leadership positions.
