This report focuses on the multi-ethnic counties in the Rift Valley that have a history of significant election-related violence. It specifically examines the state of reconciliation efforts in the region and assesses the dangers of relying on a tenuous political alliance between Kikuyu and Kalenjin elites in order to guarantee peace. What’s really needed is a more substantial and sustainable investment in grassroots peacebuilding initiatives. Last, the report explores how the system of devolution introduced into Kenya’s 2010 Constitution has additionally altered the region’s political landscape.
