This report provides a comprehensive summary of key global trends and patterns in terrorism between 2000 and 2016. The report’s main positive news for 2016 includes 1) that the year saw a 22 percent decline in the number of deaths when compared to the peak in 2014; and 2) that terrorism has fallen significantly in four of the five countries it affects the most. However, not all the trends are positive. For instance, more countries in 2016 experienced at least one death from terrorism than at any time in the past 17 years.
