This publication analyzes how states indirectly integrated a human rights dimension into the Paris Climate Agreement. Indeed, while human rights are only explicitly featured in the Agreement’s preamble, they’ve also been woven into its operative provisions, primarily via the concept of sustainable development. The next step, which the text’s author believes is a legal responsibility, is for states to integrate human rights into their national climate action strategies.
