The author of this piece calls for an honest conversation about the West’s ‘War on Terror’. For instance, he urges Western nations to call into question 1) their military engagement in conflicts in the Middle East and Africa; 2) their approaches to the integration of Muslim refugees and immigrants; and 3) how society, law enforcement and the media portray extremists, and more. While such debates will be far from easy, the author contends that national debates must be held as the current course is not working.
