UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security assumes that the more female peacekeepers you have in a peace operation, the less sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) will result from UN forces. Well, that’s not true in the DRC. As this brief points out, the South African contingent in MONUSCO has over four times the number of female peacekeepers than a normal UN mission and yet it is guilty of more SEA than any other nation. Here are four things that should be done in response.
