This publication analyzes the ways in which Russia has attempted to cultivate its political influence in Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Key insights include 1) that overall, public opinion towards Russia in these countries is decisively negative; 2) however, in all four cases, pro-Russian far right forces are gaining traction; 3) if more Italy-style coalitions of Russian far-right political parties emerge following upcoming elections, Europe may become irreparably divided, which would serve the Kremlin’s interests; and more.
