This report summarizes the results of the "Spiez CONVERGERNCE 2016" workshop, where the participants focused on ‘hot-science’ topics that are of possible relevance to both the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC). The topics covered include 1) chemical synthesis, chemical modification and the roles played by large molecules; 2) additive manufacturing or the 3D printing of specialized equipment; 3) the threats posed by genome editing technologies; 4) the memory and ‘propaganda’ capabilities of biological systems; 5) the impact of “tacit knowledge,” and more.
