When it comes to American national security and economic interests, African nations have rarely qualified as essential partners. According to this report's author, there are four reasons why that has to change – 1) the transnational threats originating from the continent; 2) America’s ‘underdeveloped’ commercial presence in African markets; 3) the unremitting importance of natural resources; and 4) the utility of an international order that benefits the US.
