This paper takes a close look at the nature and activities of the Gülen movement and its opposition to Tayyip Recep Erdogan’s government in Turkey. The text’s author particularly zeros in on 1) the clandestine nature of the movement's activities, both in the US and Turkey; 2) the extent to which Gülenists were involved in the attempted military coup in July 2016; 3) Turkey’s subsequent attempts to extradite Fethullah Gülen from the US; and 4) the post-coup crackdown on Gülenists and other critics of the government in Turkey.
