This paper reviews the status of Boko Haram as of early 2016. The author specifically focuses on 1) how Boko Haram has evolved over time; 2) the three groups from which it is broadly derived; 3) its current objectives; and 4) the security outlook for the northeast region of Nigeria, which is the organization’s base of operations.
