This article 1) briefly reviews the history of US policy towards the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation; 2) contends that American credibility has taken a hit because of President Obama’s unclear Russian policy; and 3) speculates on what the future may hold for Washington’s policy towards Moscow. The text’s author also criticizes the two recent presidential candidates, who both failed to articulate how they would deal with Russia, and contends that the US needs to train a new generation of Russian experts.
