This publication charts the evolution of conversion studies, which focuses on demilitarization processes and disarmament management, since end of World War II and the reasons for the demise of the discipline in the new millennium. The text’s author also explains that while he doubts that a renaissance of conversion studies is a realistic or desirable objective, contemporary peace and conflict research can still draw valuable lessons from the discipline’s history. Indeed, he here sets out six proposals on how conversion could still inform systematic academic inquiry in the 21st century.
