The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) may have halted Iran’s progress towards a nuclear weapon. But what broader strategy should the US adopt towards Iran to protect its interests in the Middle East? This report responds, and particularly calls on the US to adopt a long-term approach that 1) enforces rigorous implementation of the nuclear agreement; 2) strategically limits Iran’s ability to meddle in the internal affairs of America’s regional partners; and 3) will enable Washington to engage with Tehran to avoid inadvertent escalations in tensions and more.
