In this report, former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd takes stock of the UN and what the organization should do to adapt itself to the demands of the 21st century. Rudd’s core argument is that 1) the UN isn’t broken yet, but it is in trouble; 2) despite its troubles, the institution still matters and if it fails, falters, or fades away global stability will suffer; and 3) one should never take the organization for granted. The former prime minister concludes his presentation by claiming that the UN is capable of reinventing itself, but one-off reforms won’t do the trick. What’s really needed is a continual process of reinvention.
