How is Russia shaping China’s perceptions of its own competition with the US over hypersonic glide vehicles (HGV)? After examining Chinese-language research texts on the subject, the author of this paper 1) lays out Moscow’s seeming influence over Beijing’s thinking; 2) explores the two countries’ shared concerns about the US’ missile defense efforts; and 3) concludes that it’s time for the Americans to account for how Russia’s quest for a global strike capability is influencing China’s HGV decisions.
