This paper contends that in order to sustain the momentum gained in combating outbreaks of infectious diseases, the incoming US presidential administration should integrate global health, development, and pandemic preparedness more tightly into America's national security architecture, to include its foreign policy and diplomacy. The paper’s author also recommends 1) shifting from disease-focused policies to outcome-orientated measures; 2) increasing Washington’s global health, development, and pandemic preparedness; and 3) improving US interagency coordination in this domain.
