So, what is deglobalization? This text's author believes it’s a multi-strand phenomenon that includes economic protectionism, limiting the movement of people, regulating capital flows, and attempting to restrict access to information. Since existing institutions seemingly can’t ‘manage’ these practices, the author thinks it’s time for a new form of international governance that 1) serves as a quasi-judicial process; 2) provides confidential advice about policy linkages and spillovers; and 3) functions as a gatekeeper or manager of data openness.
