This text traces China’s geopolitical interactions with South Asia in the maritime domain, particularly in three sub-theaters – 1) the Bay of Bengal; 2) Sri Lanka’s area of interests in the Indian Ocean; and 3) Pakistan’s territorial waters in the Arabian Sea. The paper’s author concludes that the geopolitical realities of Xi Jinping’s strategy towards Maritime South Asia will ultimately be fashioned by both China and India.
