This publication contends that following a temporary détente between the US and China to cooperate to fight Covid-19, conspiracy theories are once again flaring up in both states, sabotaging joint efforts to control the pandemic. The author contends that Washington has insinuated that the virus may have escaped from a Wuhan bioweapons lab, while Beijing is pursuing a counter-narrative that US soldiers may have brought the virus from a Fort Detrick bioweapons lab to the October Military Games in Wuhan. She concludes that with so many lives at stake, this is not the time for politicians to be promoting such narratives.
