Despite the efforts to assign more female soldiers to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), the force remains dominated by men. That’s not good, argue the authors of this text. MINUSMA should include African forces that stress gender integration in their own armies and thereby accomplish two ends – expand the mission’s capabilities and use gendered forces as role models/mentors for other MINUSMA contingents.
