This brief traces the diminishing power of the so-called the Islamic State (IS), specifically over the last two years. However, less money, moral and recruits doesn’t mean the terrorist group will disappear. It could revert back to being a ‘classic’ terrorist organization, which means that counterterrorism forces will once again have to adapt their strategies to cope with a smaller and less visible foe.
