This paper contends that the lifting of international sanctions on Iran was welcomed in the South Caucasus. Many in the region hoped that Iran´s rapprochement with the West would open up the way for Tehran to increase its trade and investment activities in the Caucasus, especially in the energy and transport sectors. However, as the text’s authors here explain, these anticipated benefits have been slow to arrive.
