This paper looks at the implementation obstacles to the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the EU. The barriers 1) revolve around standards, rules, regulations and procedures, and 2) involve heavy transaction costs for European and Canadian firms that wish to conduct transatlantic business. To deal with these problems effectively, the text’s author concludes that Canada and the EU need to create a comprehensive institutional architecture that will ensure active consultation with relevant CETA stakeholders.
