This publication includes four articles on China’s engagement with the Middle East and its implications for Europe. More specifically, the text’s authors address 1) China’s evolving economic, political and security footprint in the Middle East; 2) China’s challenge to US dominance in the region; 3) how China pursues a concept of peace tied to development rather than democracy in the region, in contrast to the West, and how this relates to Beijing’s own interests, and 4) how the six states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are attempting to balance their foreign policies to benefit from China’s increasing regional role without alienating the US.
