This text summarizes the discussions held at the “Defence Matters 2016” seminar, which focused on NATO’s post-Warsaw Summit defense planning requirements. The subjects covered include 1) the Alliance’s deterrence and defense postures toward a resurgent Russia; 2) the EU’s possible contributions to transatlantic security, particularly in the wake of the Brexit vote; and 3) how to fill the defense planning gap that exists between NATO’s ambitions and the “national realities” of its members.
