This paper examines the G20’s role in shaping global economic governance. Although the forum functioned as an “efficient response mechanism” to the 2008-2010 global financial crisis, the subsequent return to relative economic normalcy has led to 1) a division of interests among G20 members, and 2) a resulting disparity between initial G20 Summit declarations and what’s actually undertaken in their name. Nevertheless, despite these setbacks, the text’s author concludes that the summits remain a vital forum for informal meetings between leaders.
