This commentary updates us on the jockeying for power that’s going on in Ukraine, which is nothing if not complicated. Yes, President Petro Poroshenko has accumulated an overwhelming degree of power in his hands, but he remains focused on merely strengthening his own hand. In turn, the People’s Front has lost significant influence while Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroysman, although still dependent on Poroshenko, has gained in strength. And so it goes, with other ‘moving parts’ highlighted in the commentary. The ultimate take away from the piece is that Ukraine’s political stagnation and infighting will continue to thwart much needed reforms within the country.
