This paper recapitulates the debate within the UK over the country's faltering EU membership. In particular, the paper’s author discusses 1) the history of UK-EU relations; 2) why David Cameron tried to change Britain's terms of membership prior to the 23 June 2016 Brexit referendum; 3) the arguments which were made to justify leaving the EU; 4) what the British electorate voted for on 23 June; 5) how the UK government is likely to approach the exit negotiations; and 6) how London’s departure may affect the EU and its member states.
