This volume includes chapters that assess the most significant defense challenges facing Japan and its partners today. The topics covered by the chapters include 1) how Japan can leverage its partnerships with other nations to pursue its policy objectives in the Indo-Pacific; 2) Japan’s defense policy in cyberspace; 3) defense and the challenge of Japan’s aging population; 4) Japan’s space security policy; and 5) the future of Japan’s deterrence strategy in light of challenges posed to the US-Japan alliance by strategic competition with China.
