The current COVID-19 pandemic makes obvious the need for effective risk prevention anchored in society as a whole. A central challenge here is the involvement of the population in public risk and crisis management. At the CSS Brown Bag Webinar on 16 April 2020, Florian Roth, Senior Researcher in the Risk and Resilience Team at the CSS, analyzed the needs and capabilities of citizens with regard to disasters and emergencies. Based on various studies on previous crisis events, including several flood events and the European refugee crisis, Florian Roth discussed how to provide targeted support to particularly vulnerable groups and thus promote the resilience of the overall social system.
