CSS Brown Bag Webinar: "Security policy aspects of 5G in Europe"

The current COVID-19 pandemic highlights the need for a reliable and secure digital infrastructure. The new mobile phone standard 5G is expected to open up not only more data exchange but also new networking possibilities thanks to lower delays. Because this can also affect critical areas such as transportation, healthcare or energy supply, 5G has a security policy component. At the CSS Brown Bag Webinar on 23 July 2020, Julian Kamasa, a researcher in the Swiss and Euro-Atlantic Security team, explained the technical and geopolitical challenges involved and how these can be countered. Last but not least, Julian Kamasa emphasized that 5G is a prime example of how a country like Switzerland wants to develop its digital infrastructure in the midst of intensified competition between the major powers.
