Speaker Series: US-China Strategic Competition in the Digital Domain

On 18 June 2019, as part of the Speaker Series “US Foreign Policy in the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities,” that is funded by the US Embassy in Bern, William A. Carter discussed “US-China Strategic Competition in the Digital Domain.” Mr. Carter explored the various aspects of the US-Chinese digital relationship, including cyber, artificial intelligence, and 5G. He noted the extent to which the two economies are deeply interlinked, as well as the numerous areas of friction. He expressed concern about the relationship, but also voiced overall optimism about the role of technology in democracies, not least when it comes to fostering economic growth.
