This paper assesses the developmental effects of globalization and economic liberalization on five economies: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. The author distinguishes between two categories, with the former having achieved more robust economic growth and equitable social development: the Northeast Asians - Republic of Korea and Taiwan, and the Southeast Asian trio (SEA3) - Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
