This paper traces the progression of globalization since the 1970s, and distinguishes between economic neoliberal and internationalist perspectives. It describes changes in the volume and direction of goods, services, capital and income, and addresses technical issues surrounding transnational comparisons of income and consumption. It further reviews the debate over broadening global income inequality.
