This brief argues that reducing inequality should not only be a goal in itself, it should also be reflected in other goals. It should, for example, be woven into UN Development Goals and help set government accountability standards. The brief further suggests that more nuanced interpretations of Gini coefficient shifts could help us measure reduced inequalities more effectively, particularly in the case of governments that have made progress but still fall short of a desired numerical target of 0.4.
