This brief explores the potential and limits of the social and solidarity economy (SSE), which is a concept that promotes enterprises and organizations (in particular cooperatives, mutual benefit societies, associations, foundations and social enterprises) that produce goods, services and knowledge in ways that specifically enhance development and gender equality, increase 'livelihood security', and foster social solidarity.
