This paper discusses Bolivia’s increase in public revenue and its improvement in its performance on several social performance indicators, something it achieved by drawing on revenues from its mineral resources. The authors opine that the root of these changes was the social mobilization that led to the nationalization of the country's oil and gas sector in 2006. While the country has made progress in terms of poverty reduction, income inequality, health and education, entrenched inequalities still persist. They contend that this problem has been acknowledged by the government leading to the new constitution in 2009 as well as other initiatives.
