This brief examines the global institutional framework for managing development cooperation as well as what factors the authors believe should inform its future. The authors first outline the main functions of a global platform that manages development cooperation and the criteria that they think demonstrate whether a particular platform lives up to them. They then use these criteria to assess two existing platforms: the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation and the UN Development Cooperation Forum. Finally, they discuss three possible models for a future development cooperation platform.
