This paper describes the diseases afflicting rural migrant workers in urban settings in China and their specific health needs in contrast to the general population. It includes a literature review on the relevance and challenges of selected diseases for this subpopulation. The authors also look at the potential influence of this subpopulation on the health status of the general Chinese population and the implications of their findings on health policy in China.
